Medtronic Simplera CGM Review
The new Medtronic CGM is here- Medtronic Simplera. My review is simple- they starting to catch-up. I found Simplera to be a fantastic and very comfortable wearable. Simplera works as a standalone CGM, connected with inPen and the different Simplera Sync sensor connects with Medtronic 780G. Hope you enjoy my video.

Tandems Pipeline reveal- Mobi patch and Tslim X3
What do you do if you want to swim? My experience has been an entire failure trying to use the 780G sensors recommended by Medtronic. This whole idea is a failure. I want a sensor much like the Dexcom sensor. 1 fully intact waterproof unit that allows a person to swim and immediately move out of the water, gather information and bolts .
Is the sync version out in the UK now?
If you were on tandem pump and Dexcom g6 would you swap to Medtronic 780g with simplera sensor?
bro can share or uploaded online so can see it in another pone or outside home for my grandma ?
Doesn't it require calibration every day? That's what i read. I could talk a bit more about how did you extended the 7 day period.. it can be restarted, like the G4?
So, on the DL, there's a trick where you can extend a G3 or G4 sensor by unplugging the transmitter from the sensor and plugging it back in and setting it up as a new sensor on the pump. I've been able to get an additional week quite regularly doing this. Seems like there might not be a way to do this with Simplera :(
Great Kamil!! Straight and to the point! Love it. Great vid 🤓😄😄😄
I find Medtronic to be asleep at the wheel because they dominated the North American market for such a long time. This stock unit is obviously an outcome of some internal questioning but it’s no way the best in my opinion. My opinion being based on video reviews of course. I used 2 different Medtronic pumps then transferred to using Tandem + D6 and wowee! So whatever pump + CGM combo is actually a huge privilege if you can access it. We are in “Diabetic Disneyland” as I call it after the decades of waiting on the stick… if you are lucky!
Is simplera direct to Apple Watch Great videos btw
Thank you for that! No it’s via iPhone only.
And thats why I put my sensor around my stomach/abdominal. Although, simplery is way better than the current G4, but statistically, its outdated comparing to the competitors.
It’s interesting that people do this for this reason. I’m completely not surprised though.
Roll on getting these, My wife went away for a few days and my sensor failed, had to wait until she got back to change it! Impossible on my own 😢Thanks for the content 👍
Oh wow. Thank you for sharing. So as a Guardian CGM user, you couldn’t change it on your own?
@@Nerdabetic No I can't! It's impossible on the back of your arms and my job as a sparks they take a beating in any other area! Crawling through a loft or under a floor 🤣thanks again, keep up the good work 👍
You make such a good point about how terrible the guardian is for anyone with physical disabilities. I don’t have any and still find it difficult to insert and tape adequately. So ready for this to be available in the US!!
Yeah Simplera is really the first CGM from Medtronic that’s accessible to people with diabetes with physical disabilities. It also means they can now use 780G pump or inPen in a connected way.
@@Nerdabetic What happened to Medtronic's tubeless pump?
The deal to acquire the pump they wanted didn’t happen because of legal challenges and other matters. Medtronic publicly stated they working on an in house tubeless pump but it will be a very long time until we see this
wowow can’t wait to ditch the guardian 4 for this :D
Yeah! I’m so excited for you to do so 😄
How is pain on insertion compared to Guardian 4? I’ve only used Guardian3/4 and they hurt the back of my arms so bad on insertion.
My son got Covid and now has T1d a year now😭
Should you change a bleeder to ensure accuracy? What could cities do to remove barriers for people living with Diabetes. I'm working on a project. Lastly, have you tried the Ketones sensor for China?
Great video! What paperwork is shipped inside the applicator 3 pack? A sheet of paper or a booklet?
the only change seems to be that the transmitter and sensor are together. What are the other advantages with the pump? Disappointing that it still takes 2 hours of warm up and only lasts 7 days. I really wish a pump would use a technology like the Eversense E3 that you'd only need to insert the sensor once a year. 7 days is just to short and a 2 hour warm up is to long. With medtronic pumps you can not even insert a sensor 2 hours early and connect a second transmitter to get Continues Glucose Monitoring so that as one ends the new one starts. CGM is impossible with medtronic and you always have the 2 hour sensor information gap. It sucks. It is defiantly not continues even with the name CGM. I'm so disappointed in Simplera CGM. Nothing really changed much in this update. Disappointed 😥 They could have done so much more and better.
Gone through about 7 or 8 of these with the 780g closed loop system Massive improvement on the Guardian 4 After the 2hr warmup it will go straight to a value, no calibration Although there are certain conditions when it will ask for calibration, e.g. if your basal has been suspended over the max time Generally pretty accurate, although the dreaded 'calibration not accepted' message is still in there, only happened once so far, I just kept snoozing it's request for a couple of hours then recalibrated and it was fine after that Getting my BG on my android watch (old Samsung tizen, eww) has been possible but took a lot of research and apps installed: medtronic -> xdrip -> g-watch on phone -> g-watch watch face on watch
Thanks for sharing! Yeah massive upgrade on Guardian 4. Yeah android watch compatibility is non existed but thankfully we have the DIY gang. Have you found less alarms with 780G on Simplera vs G4?
Alarms about smart guard about the same Alarms about sensor malfunction less Although I had a reasonable experience with G4 (probably the new transmitter, I was upgraded, as a 3year old transmitter on a G3 was hell on earth)
How are the accuracy and calibration requirements of the Simplera compared to the G7 and Libre 3?
Hello, I have been looking for a Polish language version of the operating system for a long time, I mean the Polish firmware for Free Style Libre 2. Does anyone know where I can download it and how to reset it?
This really seems to be for those who are going out for run, a swim, marathon, or are involved in an all day sporting event for example, because 99.5% of people are still going have there phones with them.Next question is though bluetooth uses less battery life than wifi, I suspect it’s going to effect battery life on Apple Watch.
I added the Apple Watch to my Dexcom connections. Works sort of ok. Was at a ball game yesterday and walked to concession stand a little walk from stands. Kept losing signal and the little phone icon would show next to readings. Makes me nervous to not have phone with me.
Ty for this anouncement. Please answer if you know... Does Simplera work on all Android phones regardless of system version(Android version 7, 8 ....12, 13, 14)? Because Guardian 4 have serious issues and only works on a few phones that are old and must be compatible with Guardian 4. Also, the Andoid system must only be compatible with version 11 and 12. If you upgrade your phones to Android 13 or 14, the Medtronic sensor will not it still worked on that phone and can't be use with sensor. And those phones, being old, are hard to find now.
Hi Kamil, thanks for making this video. Do you have an idea about when the simplera will be available in the U.K. or ireland?
Does the Simplera or the Dexcon G7 work on a Samsung Watch ? Thanks
No currently only Apple Watch. It is region specific
Can’t wait. The current guardian 4 sensor is really outdated.
Interesting. I have been pretty disappointed with the Dexcom G7 (too many dead out of the box sensors).
Hello, thx for this video. Old medtronic tech is coming. Just like winter.
The Medtronic 780G paired with the Guardian Sensor 4 is a incredible closed loop system, but putting the sensor in sucks the fat one. It's fiddly and needs to go behind your arm which makes it worse, initial insertion is a little brutal too. If I wasn't using it with the pump I'd absolutely use a Freestyler instead. I sincerely hope this comes to Australia quickly, I can live with a 2hr warm up and 7 day wear :-) Also do you mind doing a follow-up review? How did it hold up over 7 days, how accurate was it, did it need any TLC or calibration? Thanks! Love the video's thank you.
You wouldn’t use the Ypsopump with a dexcom?
@@Thems0the0breaks0kid When I got my pump 2 years ago my Diabetes Educator recommended it over the competition for its more advanced and aggressive algorithms. She was very up-front with the pumps short fallings, including how hostile it is to put in the CGM and how bulky the unit is. I have appreciated how actively it will auto-bolus or cut insulin entirely to keep the ship steady, it was game changing. With that said I'll certainly research & change to a better option when my renewal comes up, but that's still 2 years away at least (I couldn't afford to pay for a pump, my private health will replace it every 4 years or so).
As a mum of a type 1 daughter who was on dexcom g6 for 4 years, now on Medtronic with Guardian 4 sensor. The pump is mind blowing, the sensor is not the prettiest and is a lot more fiddly to insert. We would be overjoyed to get the simplera.
Which pump do you guys use? Thanks.
Are you Looping still?
Still no Libre 3 or Dexcom G7 in Australia. So I’d say be a long way off before we see Simplera. Love the video though
CGM changed my life, for ever, i never trusth pricking my finger outside of my home, and CGM just give me soo much freedom that i spend a entire week on a really far away place in a oddly concret camp to make part of a event of technology, i never will make that without CGM, but using libre 1 with miao miao to send data to my smartphone, i hope they improve using time to a month or cames the freestyle libre 3 here in brazil soon as possible. Also, i'am going to a event next week where i will have 12 hours of ininterrupt activities, sure i will pack some high density glicose food and my insuline, but this is another stuff i never will make without CGM, because that is a huge time without any big meal, soo, how to control a glucose levels properly? Well, if it is getting down, i bite some stuff, if i have to inject insuline, sure, i use my pen, and keep a eye on the levels, if needed lots of chocolate or even higher density glucose stuff, honey packs turn to be nice, but the extreme need i use some energy drinks, those stuff are the best i know in brazil, i not sure, but i guess here not has any glucose pen or similar stuff, never see any place selling those. Also, i'am not alone in this trip, and it get even further confidence to deal with this adventure. The long term insulin as Tresiba, that is once a day helps to keep stuff in place as well, better than this is only few stuff as directly libre 3 to my smartphone, and a really increase will be have totally no need to inject insuline, but take a single year dose of medic injection that "cure" diabetics for a while, those studies, i hope become true in few years
Hello ah thank you I hope simplera will simplify my diabetic life as a Med 780G and Guardian4 user. Merci beaucoup @@++ ;) :)
Frustrating how long G7 integration with pumps (specifically OmniPod 5) is taking. Would be so nice to stop being shackeled to an outdated product for compatibility reasons.
As someone who is full Medtronic ecosystem (currently on 780g+guardian) for more than a decade it’s very disappointing to see how small this evolution is. A guide on what someone could expect when trying to transition away from Medtronic’s ecosystem might be interested.
Thanks for sharing your views! Would love to know more? Is your disappointment around the 7 day wear time?
@@Nerdabetic the 7 day wear time, the two hour warm up (the warm up is probably the bigger issue) and that the setup may be more involved (having to type a code in). I guess I just hoped that Medtronic wouldn’t evolve to just catch up but to get back ahead. I don’t see any way in which they are “ahead” of the other options in the market other than that it’s a single company ecosystem.
I've been using medronic pumps for almost 20 years. They are so far behind. They have become less durable and have less accurate CGMs. CGMs that only last 7 days and uses a huge deep going sensor (painful) and requires a 2 hour warm up. I thought this update would be better, but medtronic basically just connected the sensor and transmitter. Their algorithm is still the best, but the physical hardware is behind the competition and progress is almost non existent. I wanted to be excited about the Simplera, but it does not seem to offer much of an improvement. I hope I'm wrong. I really, greatly want to see medtronic purchase and integrate the Eversense like the E3 with medtronic pumps so that I only need to insert 1 sensor a year and use it for a full year. And allow for 2 transmitters so I could charge one while the other is in use for truly Continues Glucose Monitoring, not the crap we have now with medtronic pumps and CGM's. Do you have any ideas you'd like to have?
@@matthewcolburn9930 7 days tops, i feel like one out of every 3 craps out early on me these days.
2 HOUR WARM UP! Deal breaker.
Definitely stands out in 2024
Have you heard anything about when the simplera sync will actually release in the UK? I heard spring, but in my mind spring is pretty much over
Thanks for posting. Now that they’ve addressed their terrible guardian CGM travesty, I would consider going back to Medtronic. (I thought the algo was great.) Waiting to see what their next pump is like. Thanks for the video!
interesting
Thank you for watching 😃
Wow! I wish I could get a sample of the Simplera! Any suggestions?
Simplera CGM is CE marked and rollout is underway😃
Still no G7 in Australia as of June 2024
Thank you! Is it possible to have these features with an Apple Watch SE?
does it have a patch incase the tape come out
Hope this coming soon to Germany ... I am really happy with my G7 System.
The tech update is great..... any of these greedy companies working on a cure? I already know the answer to that.
I have had nothing but problems. Never gives me actual readings even after calabration it was 100 off. Loses signal several times. Didnt register any sugar at all just said low. So i guess i am dead.. then gives me highs and at first i took insulin over dosing myself. Aint worth it because i need to calibrate it constantly and it is still off. 2 night of no sleep because of the alarms. Its a pos!!! The only good thing is it goes in yojr arm easily and comfortable to wear. But it ends there. 2 sensors didnt last for the full time and went wacky before it died.
What is even more painful for me about the Apple Watch experience is the frequency of updated readings to the Dexcom watch face complication. For anyone who has used direct to apple watch, does this change the experience of the watch complication at all? Or does it still lag and you have to tap on it to force an update?
Hello Nerdabetic. Thanks for the video. I don't suppose you have any more precise information on when we might expect the Freestyle Libre 3 Plus to be launched, do you? Also, will the Freestyle Libre 3 Plus become available in the UK (and if yes, when might it become available?). Thanks
Any news about iOS compatibility?
